Diorama

The Objective

For this assignment, I was tasked with creating a virtual 15 second diorama. In preparation of the final project we had to create a storyboard and a mood board. We used these to show the plan for the sequence of events in the video as well as showing the aesthetic of the animation. Ancient Egypt has always been fascinating to me so I immediately thought of basing this project on it.

Gathering Assets

All the assets I used are from Adobe Stock. Tomb Interior, Tomb Doors, Tomb Raider. It was helpful because I was able to find multiple pieces that all match in style and aesthetic, a few minor tweaks.

Separating Layers

In order to allow for parallaxing in the final animation, I had to separate all of the Adobe Illustrator elements in order to be able to manipulate and adjust each section individually in Adobe After Effects.

The Challenge

The most challenging aspect of this assignment was definitely the adventurer character. The character was only split into a few sections; The main body, the lower legs, the head, and the left forearm. With that said, it was a little difficult to make his movements look as smooth as possible. For his facial expression when the mummy pops out, I used puppet pins to warp his face which adds some emotion to the piece rather than his face strain the same throughout the entirety of the animation.
